The Best Electric Vans Available & Coming in 2021-2022

 As more and more cities and towns introduce low-emission zones, it’s well worth considering electric vans for your fleet.

With the average mileage of an LCV being only 35 miles a day there are now plenty of pure electric vans in a variety of models, makes and sizes fit for businesses to consider. Read on for our shortlist of electric vans available soon.

Small Vans

 

Maxus eDeliver 3

The SAIC-owned MAXUS brand released its compact fully electric van into the UK in 2020.

The eDeliver 3 comes in two sizes of battery, a 35kWh giving up to 127 miles of range and a 55kWh delivering up to 174 miles. With rapid ‘DC’ charging the van can be charged to 80% in 45 minutes making it a strong contender for most range requirements. The eDeliver 3 offers a payload of up to 1,000kg and will have both short and long-wheelbase variants which, at 5.0 and 6.3 cubic metres and 4.5m and 5.1m long respectively, straddle the traditional small and medium van segments.


Nissan e-NV200

Having been on sale since 2013, the Nissan e-NV200 received a larger more powerful battery in 2018, which boosted the official range from 106 miles to 174 miles. The ability to rapid charge and good range has meant that this vehicle is becoming a favourite with city van drivers in the small van category. The e-NV200 has a cargo volume of 4.2 cubic metres and a payload of 705kg. Rapid charging through its CHAdeMO connector can replenish the battery from 10 to 80% in as little as 45 minutes.

New Renault Kangoo Z.E.

Europe’s best-selling electric utility vehicle is about to get a makeover. The next-generation Renault Kangoo Z.E. will be available in two body lengths, with load volumes of 3.3 to 3.9 cubic metres in standard form and 4.2 to 4.9 cubic metres for the longer version. At the moment there is no battery, range, charging or performance details but watch this space and we’ll be updating you as soon as Renault announces.

 

Medium Sized Vans

Peugeot e-Expert

Peugeot has released it’s its new mid-size electric van that comes with impressive payload and driving range capability. The e-Expert comes in a choice of three sizes and three trim levels.

The interior capacity on the long wheelbase version is 6.6 m3, it has a payload of up to 1,226 kg and a height of under 1.90m. It also has the capability to tow up to 1,000kg. The e-Expert comes in two battery sizes, either a 50 kWh offering a range of up to 143 miles WLTP, or the 75 kWh offering a range of up to 205 miles WLTP. The battery is guaranteed for 8 years or 100,000 miles for 70% of its charge capacity.

Vauxhall Vivaro-e

The Vauxhall Vivaro-e is an exciting entry into the medium-sized electric van category. An EV version of its flagship commercial vehicle, the Vivaro-e offers a great range at a very reasonable price. Available with two battery options, 50 kWh battery version offers 143 miles of range while the 75 kWh battery version delivers up to 205 miles, a number that was achieved with a half-tonne payload in the back during WLTP conditions. Performance like this makes the Vivaro-e a strong, real-world contender for anyone considering a medium-sized electric van with payloads of 1,226 kg for the 50 kWh version and 1,002 kg for the 75 kWh version. As an additional bonus, both battery sizes offer a 1,000 kg towing weight and a 3,100 kg gross vehicle weight. Charging the 50kWh pack from empty to 80% can be achieved in half an hour from a 100kW rapid charger, while the 75kWh pack takes 45 minutes. 

Large Sized Vans

Citroën e-Relay

 Citroën’s largest van, the Relay, is to be launched in a pure electric version and will be called the e-Relay. The van should satisfy a much-needed demand for larger delivery vans suitable for low-emission and zero-emission zones. A total of four chassis lengths and three roof heights will be available, with the chassis cab version boasting the highest payload of up to 1,890kg. There will be two battery options, a 37kWh with a range of 141 miles and 70kWh with a range of 211 miles. With DC charging up to 50kW allowing for an 80% charge in an hour, the e-Relay is a solid offering for those operating in ULEZ areas with bigger, heavier requirements.

Ford E-Transit

WLTP Range: up to 217 miles.

Britain's most popular van is going electric. The Ford E-Transit will have a 67kWh battery and have a WLTP range of up to 217 miles on a single charge.

The load volume will be up to 15.1 cubic metres and carry up to 1616kg as a van, and up to 1967kg in the chassis cab version. The E-Transit's will be able to DC rapid charge up to 115kW meaning it can charge from 15-80% in just 34 minutes. Ford sweetens the deal further as the E-Transit's battery is also protected by an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.

Maxus eDeliver 9

WLTP Range: up to 219 miles.

 

This year sees Maxus expand it’s fully electric offering with a new larger sibling to the eDeliver 3, the long-awaited eDeliver 9. Available in both medium and long-wheelbase versions, the new model will be rated at 3500kgs and optional 4050kgs with payloads of up to 1,700kg. Three battery options, 51.5kWh, 72.0kWh and 88.6kWh are available, meaning the eDeliver 9 will claim a range of up to 219 miles. Rapid DC charging means that an 80% battery charge should take only 45 minutes, making mid-route refuelling an option. The eDeliver 9 is offered in a number of variants including crew cab, chassis and minibus models so it is one to watch for its performance and versatility in an end of the market that remains uncrowded.
